Adequan demonstration

Preparation:

·      Remove syringe from packaging.

·      Tighten the needle onto the syringe.

·      Insert needle into the Adequan bottle.

·      Note the amount of fluid prescribed to your pet on the prescription label.

·      Pull the plunger to match the amount prescribed to the top black line.

·      Hold the plunger while removing the syringe from the bottle.

·      Remove the old needle and attach the new needle to ensure sharpness.

Injection:

·      Provide cookies to your pet for distraction or have an additional person help.

·      Make a tent in the skin between the shoulder blades.

·      Identify the soft area under the skin.

·      Insert the needle into this area (PARALLEL TO THE BODY).

o   Keeping the needle parallel ensures safety from injecting other tissues.

o   Inserting quickly through the skin reduces pain.

·      Push the plunger to insert the liquid.

·      Remove the needle.

Disposal:

·      Place the needle in a glass jar.

·      Needles may be returned to FVR for proper disposal.
